Alien Prequel

Hollywood obviously read my blog yesterday about the Police Academy reboot I casted and want to get in on the fun of casting actors and actresses that could possibly be interested in starring in movies that may or may not get made.

Fox (apparently, apparently) would love for Charlize Theron to step in and take on the lead role of Elizabeth Shaw in the Ridley Scott directed prequel to Alien. I'm glad Scott is on board to direct, and I think a prequel makes sense given how the original movie started off. Even if it turns out to be an origin of who the aliens are and where they came from, I'm 100% fine with that.

I think its smart to not center the role around Ellen Ripley, and that's out of respect to what Sigourney Weaver did with the character.  Keeping the main role centered on a strong female character is a great idea, especially since that is basically what the franchise was built on, and Theron is a good mix.

This is far from a done deal, however.  Scott has his eye on a relative unknown and has been pushing for a multicultural crew, and Theron does not scream "multicultural".

All the red tape aside, it will be good to get back to an Alien movie that explores the "fear" elements that the original movies had.
