Philadelphia Eagle Owner/Oscar Winner

Jeff Lurie has been called many things, and as owner of the Philadelphia Eagles I'm sure not all of them have been nice. After last night, he can now be called "Academy Award Winner".

Lurie, who's worth a billion dollars, owns a production company that produced "Inside Job" about the financial crisis.  Unlike his Eagles, the documentary was able to go all the way and win the big one.

Hopefully Lurie gets the acting bug and takes on the roll of "owner willing to pay all-pro players to come to the Eagles" this offseason.
Pay the man. Seriously.

Get a (Very Expensive) Room, You Two.

In the Super Bowl some athletes are winners and some athletes are losers. And sometimes those athletes don't even play football.

Sometime during the first half, the cameras turned to the celebrities in the crowd and viewers were subjected to this:

Super Bowl Ads Before the Super Bowl

A lot of people (women) watch the Super Bowl for the ads, so I would think releasing them before they air isn't a great idea.  Either way, this is pretty sweet.

Hit the jump for a Chevy ad with Bumblebee being a complete asshole (spoiler alert : no robotic testicle jokes).

The Eagles Have Lost They Damn Mind

Today the Eagles announced that their offensive coordinator, Juan Castillo, would make the totally normal and simple transition to Defensive Coordinator.  If there was a sarcasm font, it would be highlighting the words "normal" and "simple".

With so many defensive coaches out there, this move seems real weird.  If you watch the video below, Castillo seems like a good guy and a hard worker and Reid CLEARLY has a man crush on him. Either Reid thinks this is a good move, or he's writing his ticket out of Philly.

Video after the jump...

NFL Delays Super Bowl To Give Doritos Time To Finish Its Commercial

Embedding clips from "The Onion" is kind of cheating since all their stuff is hilarious, but whatever. I want to see a wizard in a Doritos commercial.

Al Davis - American Zombie

Ah, Al Davis. He stands like a grouchy rock amongst the waves of modern coaches old enough to be his great grandson. He hasn't always been the most popular owner in the league, and sure...some of his teams have played the game like they were prison inmates on cocaine. But, Mr. Davis took a struggling AFL and skyrocketed it up to the NFL's level.  Sure, he took a lot of the NFL players and signed them to AFL contracts, but that's business.

So, do yourself a favor and remember Al Davis as a younger man, and do not hit the jump or scroll down.

Doug's Football Picks - Divisional Playoffs

Last week's playoff games were amazing. Only one home team won, the Seahawks shocked EVERYONE by upsetting the Saints, and those good for nothing Packers somehow cheated and beat my Eagles.

Seahawk game aside, my picks last week were VERY close. Even when I got it wrong, my points were pretty damn accurate. Long story short, feel free to rely on my picks when beating money on the games.

Doug's Football Picks - Wildcard Weekend

This was a great year for football.  Teams like the Cowboys and Vikings, who were picked to go deep into the playoffs didn't even have winning records, and teams like the Falcons and Chiefs came out of nowhere and had a great year.  Mike Vick came off the bench and straight to the Pro Bowl, Brady is having amazing numbers throwing to nobodies, and Rex Ryan likes feet...basically the league proved that anything can happen. Of course, the Lions, Browns, Bills, and Redskins still stink, so it isn't COMPLETELY without tradition.

Bookies beware; here are my picks for "Wildcard Weekend"

Fixing the NFL

Lots of talk has been going around about the Jacksonville Jaguars moving to L.A. To me, this makes sense. The Jags (fitting pun) can't sell tickets, their games are often blacked out, the fans don't care, and Florida (a state that doesn't care for any sport other than baseball) has 2 other teams already.  To top it off, their team color is teal.

Boo, freakin, Hoo (Favre's Record)

Favre's record for consecutive starts topped out at 297, and some people (women probably) are bummed that its over.  I think it should have ended at 285 (after last year's NFC championship game. Do the math, turkeys).

He had a chance to bow out gracefully, leaving people to wonder; "oh man, what if he stayed around" and being remembered as a great QB. Instead, his exit will be marred by his diminished play and for showing his pecker to some chick.

As for his record, its a great number and shows how strong he is mentally and physically.  Times have changed and you don't see QBs putting up those kind of numbers.  However, lets not forget...he's not even close to holding the all-time record of 352 by NY Giants punter, Jeff Feagles.  Favre would have to keep starting games until Feagles retired, then play almost 4 more seasons.  That said, punters shouldn't count since they're one step up from "Equipment Manager" and one step below "Cheerleader".

Good job, Brett.  Too bad your ding dong was more news worthy this year than your play.

And he didn't even win $10,000 from America's Funniest Videos.
