Doug's Football Picks - Wildcard Weekend

This was a great year for football.  Teams like the Cowboys and Vikings, who were picked to go deep into the playoffs didn't even have winning records, and teams like the Falcons and Chiefs came out of nowhere and had a great year.  Mike Vick came off the bench and straight to the Pro Bowl, Brady is having amazing numbers throwing to nobodies, and Rex Ryan likes feet...basically the league proved that anything can happen. Of course, the Lions, Browns, Bills, and Redskins still stink, so it isn't COMPLETELY without tradition.

Bookies beware; here are my picks for "Wildcard Weekend"

The Avengers "Premake"

There's a guy on YouTube that makes the "premake" trailers of popular movies using old movies and footage that he shoots on his own.  So far he's done trailers for Raiders of the Lost Arc, Ghostbusters and Forrest Gump, but my favorite is one he created for the upcoming Avengers movie.

The plot for The Avengers hasn't been revealed yet, so he based the trailer on the "Secret Invasion" crossover event and "The Ultimates".

Hit the jump for a video detailing all the cool stuff going on.
I know this came out a couple months ago, but I wasn't doing a blog back then so cut me some slack.

I think I speak for all of us when I say............

It's the Monday after the holidays and everyone is back at work and realizing there is nothing to look forward to until Ryan Reynolds put's on that green ring or Anthony Hopkins fuck's your minds up the ass with his strap on by the name of Mjolnir. Let's harken back to a better time when Steve Buscemi still looked young and Adam Sandler couldn't stop being funny (pre click). Happy Monday

Old people, right?

An actress who was in a science fiction film I never saw, but heard was really good, passed away at 80. When asked to comment on the death of Anne Francis, everyone in America said "Who?".

Leon Gets Up In Fox's Ass

JB Smoove, better known as Leon on Curb Your Enthusiasm, flipped it on Fox and topsy turvy'd their ass into giving FOX his own show.  I don't know anything about the inner workings of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but I do know this: Leon was part of a story arc that was over and they kept him around. Him and Larry have an amazing chemistry, but that may back fire on him.  Its gonna be hard to break away from all the crazy shit he says in Curb and go to a network sitcom with different standards and practices.

He's written for SNL, starred in world renowned Pootie Tang (I actually like that movie), Date Night, and a bunch of other stuff, so the dude has proven that he's funny.  Hopefully FOX lets him bring the ruckus and do his thing.

FOX show not withstanding, Smoove is committed to 10 more episodes of next season's Curb, so either way we all win.

THOR Review (without seeing it)

I was never a big THOR fan. On the surface, he talks funny and has no real flaws or weaknesses which gets incredibly one dimensional.  He can control storms and lightning and the hammer was cool, but I never read a THOR story that really interested me. I always like him in the Avengers, but never as a stand alone character.

Then I read Siege and my thoughts on Goldilocks took a turn.  If you haven't read the Siege story arc or Thor v3 1-13, I'll spare you all the details but its awesome and something you should definitely check out.

So, I'm now a believer that a Thor movie can be kick ass.

Gone Fishin'

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week. I get bored reading the onslaught of best/worst of the year lists and to be honest, I'd rather just not be a part of the stereotypical holiday/new year blog bullshit. So rather than bore you all I took a break and spent some time at home not doing a goddamn thing.

Starting Monday I'll be back in full force, talking about all new kinds of stereotypical blog bullshit!
